burning tips

container burning instructions:

  • remove all packaging before burning.
  • keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/8" to ensure an even, clean burn.  if wick begins to smoke, extinguish the candle, trim the wick and re-light.*
  • burn on a heat-safe surface for approximately 1 hour per inch in diameter or until the melt pool reaches the sides of the jar.
  • discontinue use when only 1/4" of wax remains.
  • keep out of drafts and out of direct sunlight.
  • keep away from pets and children.
  • never leave a lit candle burning unattended.

pillar burning instructions:

  • remove all packaging before burning.
  • keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/8" to ensure an even, clean burn.  if wick begins to smoke, extinguish the candle, trim the wick and re-light.*
  • burn on a heat-resistant candle holder for approximately 1 hour per inch in diameter or until the melt pool reaches the edge of the pillar.  burning longer can cause the candle to overflow.
  • keep out of drafts and direct sunlight.
  • keep away from pets and children.
  • never leave a lit candle burning unattended.

votive burning instructions:

  • remove any packaging.
  • keep wick centered and trimmed to 1/8" to ensure an even, clean burn.  if the wick begins to smoke, extinguish the candle, trim the wick and re-light.*
  • burn in a snug votive holder for no more than 2-3 hours at a time or until the melt pool reaches the sides of the jar.  burning votives for longer can cause the votive glass to crack.
  • keep out of draft and direct sunlight.
  • keep away from pets and children.
  • never leave a lit candle burning unattended.
  • soy wax is water soluable so your votive glass can be used over and over again.  when you've used up your votive, just wash it out with soap and warm water, drop in a new refill votive and enjoy!

*if you candle starts to burn to one side, adjust the wick or check for a draft.  we use cotton, hemp and paper wicks because they burn cleaner, but sometimes they need a little nudge to keep them centered!

* any candle can smoke if it is not burning efficiently.  paraffin candles smoke because of the petroleum levels and sometimes because they have lead or zinc-cored wicks.  essential oils can also cause smoke because of the small molecule size that tends to burn into the flame of the wick (as opposed to the larger fragrance oil molecules that vaporize in the hot wax).  our candles will not smoke if you take proper care of the wicks.  if your candle flame is smoking, it is not burning efficiently.  what you are seeing is carbon that is not able to burn off because the flame is too big or is in a draft.  to resolve this issue... remove the candle from the draft and/or trim the wick.  because soy wax burns slower and cooler than paraffin, we use thicker wicks to melt the wax to the edge.  this can cause the wicks to smoke if not kept trimmed.

the most important rule to follow is to keep your wicks trimmed
